Two worlds collide.

This is a picture of a little boy named Gardeson. He lives in Guibert, Haiti at the spirit of truth orphanage where his has lived for almost two years now. He came from the poorest part of Haiti with no promise of a next meal much less an education so that he could release himself from poverty. But as you can see from this picture his life is much brighter. During my time in Haiti this summer I had the opportunity to take part in their annul pastors conference. The conference is kinda a big deal because not only is it free but lunch is served to everyone in attendance everyday. To us this may not be a big deal but to these people it is probably the best 3 or four meals they will get all year. So along with the pastors the church usually each bring their choir to preform on the last day of the conference. People travel from all over the island to come to this conference so they usually end up sleeping in the classrooms attached to the orphanage. One of the people who came to the conference was Gardeson mother. He had been at the orphanage for just around a year. I kinda just sat and watched both Gardeson and his mother one evening while we all sat outside watching the boys play. Gardeson would be playing with the other boys laughing and enjoying his "family" then he would pause and look over at his mom with sad eyes. He just didn't know how to respond when his former life and his present life collided. It was a painful collision to watch this boy endure at the time I wished I could scoop him up and take that pain and tension away. It really gave me a small understanding of what these boys were like before coming to the orphanage. The situation kind of reminds me of my relationship with God. God has taken me out of an awful situation where the end result would have been death after a miserable life very similar to what Gardeson's life would have been like without the spirit of truth orphanage. But God rescued me from that harsh reality to live in a life full of hope and promise. But the longing Gardeson had in his eyes was not for the treacherous reality he used to live in but rather he wished the mother he loved so deeply could know the hope and promise his life now had because there were people who could provide for him and protect him. That is where I could learn from that small orphan boy. I need to have that sort of burden for the lost around me. I need to know an urgency like he felt for his mother.
